Japanese artist Julie HAYASHI specializes in traditional Japanese painting techniques, demonstrating exceptional skill in material utilization. The layering of Usumino washi paper, and Hemp washi paper in her works creates a sense of the passage of time and existence.
Julie HAYASHI's creations delve into the concept of "Shadows." As described in Jun'ichirō Tanizaki's "In Praise of Shadows", we live in an era bathed in bright light, relentlessly pursuing the truth, and have lost sensitivity to shadows. The artist has once again captivated by the depth and significance of shadows that transcend realistic images. Through shadows, one can perceive the contours of the real images and experience with the elusive sensation. Based on this sensual desire for shadows, the artist expresses the cycles of life, reincarnation, and the ultimate sight of returning to nature.
